Camping out at Mt Hutt Snowfields

From the carpark of Mt Hutt snow field, at sunrise from our campervan, September 2019

One of the last international trips I made before the “C” word that was 2020 and beyond, was to the South Island of New Zealand. It is clearly a very special part of the world and holds an energy, a beauty that words nor photos can justify, you have to be there to feel its essence.

It was a family holiday to the snow. We hired a camper van and drove around for a few days, spending a few at Mt Hutt snowfields. We even camped out in the carpark of Mt Hutt snowfields, which was a magical experience to say the least. Once the crowds had all departed for the day, it felt incredibly serene to be up on the mountain all alone. The best part, was waking up at sunrise on Mt Hutt and seeing the clouds of fog almost at our door step, I felt I could walk out on a sea in the sky.

As I re-did my website two years ago, I lost all my previous blog posts, so this is me wanting to re-upload some images that I took from my first trip to New Zealand, which I shared in my old blog. I desperately long to visit again, as just driving through its scenery had my imagination firing off at all cylinders, for the type of fashion photoshoots I could conceptualise against that divine landscape. I seriously wanted to live there! The little that I saw of New Zealand (as I feel I could spend months just exploring), it is no doubt one of the most fantastical places you can visit.

Below are a few snaps I took with my camera as we drove up to Mt Hutt snowfield.

Our accommodation for the entire trip. This was our first night camping alongside this river. The rest of the trip we docked the van at holiday parks.

First star, or maybe a planet at twilight, under the tree where we parked the campervan

Going through these old photos, reminiscing that family holiday, just makes me want to go there right NOW!
